What is the best content for your LinkedIn Featured Section?

Whether you’re looking for new job opportunities or just need to update your profile, the best content to include in the LinkedIn Featured Section is important. It will help you stand out from the crowd.  I’ve been asked about what is the best content to include so many times that I decided to write a post about it. In a previous post, we discussed how to use the LinkedIn Featured section.  If you have time, you can read the entire post here.  Below are highlights from the blog:

  • What the Featured section of your LinkedIn profile is and where to find it – The LinkedIn Featured section is a new section that highlights important content, and it’s located below the About section.
  • Types of content to add and how to do that – Blog posts, articles, links, and images can be added.  There is a dropdown menu to choose the type of content you want to add
  • Content that may already be in the featured section – This is content that was probably generated by LinkedIn from links in your About section before the launch of this new feature.
Where to find content on LinkedIn profile

In this post, we’re going to take a deeper look at what constitutes the best content to include in your LinkedIn Featured Section.

Types of the best content to include in your LinkedIn Featured Section

Featured content generally falls into one of the following categories:

  • Published content that you have written –  this could be an article you wrote that you published or shared on LinkedIn or another publication.

  • · Published content about a program you worked on – Maybe you led a program that is making a difference in your company or your industry.  You can add a link that highlights the work you have done.
  • · Articles about how great your company’s latest product is – For example, LinkedIn recently upgraded its tools for Recruiters.
  • · Articles about how well your company or business unit is performing – Articles about outstanding performance catch the eyes of recruiters. For example, you might highlight the fact that you’ve had over 100% growth year-over-year for three years running. If you are part of a large corporation, you might feature an article about the success of your company’s most recent acquisition.
  • · Insightful articles about the vertical market segment that you are working in – An article for a well-respected source can help add to your gravitas
  • · Insightful articles about your area of specialization – Here is an interesting article from the Harvard Business Review on the impact of AI on recruiting.

What to keep in mind when selecting your content

It’s important to remember LinkedIn is not Facebook! This section is the opportunity to showcase your best work and the depth of your professional insight. Make sure to check the analytics on the number of views and responses you receive. This will guide you in determining the type of content to feature. In most cases, posts along the lines of “Way to go!” don’t enhance the way that you are perceived.

Also, keep your target market in mind when selecting the best LinkedIn Featured Content to share. Ideally, the content isn’t just interesting to you, but also to the people you want to work with. You want it to be valuable to them since they are taking their time to not only look over your profile but actually read what you have shared.

As a final note – the best content to include in your LinkedIn Featured Section is up to you. It is your living portfolio. You should be updating it periodically. Keep the content fresh, relevant, and engaging to users. Add a variety of content – blog posts, programs you have led or worked on, articles about your company, vertical market segment, or area of specialization.
